Welcome to the League

Welcome to the Washington County Sportsmen & Conservation League, an area non-profit that seeks to maintain, improve, and enhance the rights and abilities of area sportsmen.

The purposes of this League are: the preservation, protection and propagation of game, fish, and forests; the enforcement of the game laws; the inculcation of the highest standards of sportsmanship; the promotion of friendly relations between sportsmen and land owners; and the conservation of wildlife and natural resources in general.

Our next scheduled meeting will be on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 7:30PM at the Canonsburg Sportsmen's Club.

The organization is a member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs. We are made up of members from local sportsmen clubs throughout Washington County -- including members of Ducks Unlimited, Ruffed Grouse Society, and Pheasants Forever -- and we get involved wherever possible.

We host an annual sports show at the Washington Crown Center and invite guest speakers to our monthly meetings who represent Game and Fish commissions and other walks of life.

We are also highly engaged with our youth. We sponsor youth members on the Governor's Youth Council, we hold youth pheasant hunts, and we donate to various Youth Field Days.

Bills Pass House Committee

(September 20, 2016)

Both bills (SB1166 & SB1168) passed the house Game and Fisheries Committee.

Both bills were amended to provide that any required legislative action within 30 days must include at least 10 legislative session days. David Malony, (not to be confused with Tim Mahoney, although they voted the same) tried to get 1166 tabled.

The house website shows that they did vote on his motion to table, but the vote failed

by a margin of 17 to 9.

The vote on both bills as amended was:

To report 1166 to the floor w/amend : 17 to 8

To report 1168 to the floor w/amend : 17 to 8

Two Interesting Commentaries Recently Published

(January 15, 2015) -- There was a recent commentary in the Dec. 5th issue of PA Outdoor News entitled “Statewide Sportsmen’s Groups Ineffective for Hunters and Anglers” The article was written by Bill Miller, a past president of Unified Sportsmen of PA.

Lowell Graybill, president of the PFSC wrote a response in the Jan. 2nd issue. Please read them if you haven’t done so before.
