The major topic of discussion at the October meeting was CWD. The PGC has issued a draft CWD Response Plan (pdf format). It is 37 pages long, and this summary is two pages (also PDF). The summary also contains a public comment form which the PGC will accept until Feb. 29, 2020. These documents are available on the PGC website. It's real important that the public, hunters and landowners all be fully informed about CWD for the control plan to be successful. You should know that CWD is moving closer to Washington County, Disease management areas 2 and 3 have been expanded this year. DMA 2 now covers about the eastern half of Somerset county and a portion of Westmoreland county. Route 711 in Westmoreland county from Ligonier north past the PGC Regional office on up past Johnstown is part of the western border of DMA 2.

The PGC Southwest Region will hold a CWD public information event on Wednesday, October 23; 7-8:30 pm at the Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsmen's Club, 505 Mosside Blvd., North Versailles, 15137. For more information, contact the Game Commission's Southwest Region Office at 724-238-9523. If you plan to hunt in a DMA you should check out the PGC website for all the details on what you must do after harvesting a deer in a DMA and how to have your venison tested for CWD.

It is with sadness that I have to report the passing of our long-time friends Ed Sherman and WCO Rich Joyce both died of cancer. Ed was a lifetime member of the Canonsburg club and a long-time director at the County League. Rich was a well respected WCO in Washington County for many years.

The next meeting will be Thursday, November 7th

Hunt safely,

Chet
